Reading, including Phonics

Below you will find the curriculum progression map for the teaching of early reading skills and phonics at Forest Wood.

The video below illustrates the reading progression in action, and what our provision of this looks like in school. It also highlights when and how we teach phonics once children have developed early reading skills. If you have any questions about reading, phonics or how we teach these, please contact the staff team at Forest Wood to discuss this.

This document outlines the approach to teaching phonics in line with the reading progression,  from the earliest stages of developmental sounds.

The video below showcases some of the lovely work we do at Forest Wood. Letters, words, books, reading and all of the skills which come with these are shared across provision every day. Sometimes we also have focus weeks around the sign and symbol for 'Letters', and the week below shows what that looks like!
