Pupil Referral Unit
We offer ideas for activities that can be completed at home and which cover a wide range of areas and developmental stages. Home learning ideas are added to our Facebook group to support parents and carers at home.
Early Phonics and Reading
The videos below introduce how phonics is taught at Forest Wood, as well as some examples on how to help your phonics-ready child at home. There are also links to the Jolly Phonics songs to help support engagement at home.

Ideas to support sensory development
The videos below provide a small number of ideas to help with developing sensory regulation at home.
Eating and Sensory Eating challenges
The video below was recorded to support parents during an isolation closure in December 2020, though the information is all relevant. Here, our Specialist Speech and Language Therapist discusses eating as a sensory issue, and how to support children in gaining new skills around eating and the introduction of new foods.
Developing Communication
Please see an example video below. We provide bespoke support for our parents through our Facebook site as this allows us to meet the needs of the cohort of children we have at the time.
Our 'Lockdown' Learning Plan
Below you will find a document which outlines the way we intend to support families if the setting is closed for periods of isolation, or during periods of partial opening such as during a National Lockdown or outbreak of an illness which means we cannot open.
All activities and support is posted and shared on our Facebook page, where we can also interact with our families to answer questions, offer support and share in photographs and videos of our children learning and growing both at school and at home. Below the document are a couple of examples of some activities offered in order to give you an idea of what we do.
